    Out of the loop

    2018-01-27

Despite growing awareness and need, women’s health remains sorely under-served by the medical technology (medtech) industry. It is observed that there is a lack of early-stage venture investments in medtech focusing on women’s health. The industry tends to avoid risky investments, choosing to focus on mature market segments.

Dr Sidney Yee, Executive Vice-President of ETPL, and Chief Executive of the Diagnostics Development Hub, was interviewed on the importance of women’s health in the health care segment, and how technological advances and the advent of genomics research are raising awareness of women’s health.

The Singapore Exchange and Nasdaq said on Wednesday that they are exploring the demand among corporates for a concurrent or sequential listing on both exchanges. SGX chief executive Loh Boon Chye said the move makes sense, given today's "borderless" business landscape. The collaboration with Nasdaq is the latest in a series of steps that SGX has taken to explore ways to attract more listings to local shores. It has signed agreements with partners such as a unit of the Agency for Science, Technology and Research to give selected tech companies better access to capital. If the collaboration with Nasdaq does achieve the stated aims, it would be a boon for members of the start-up community.

He is mentoring and creating startups for the venture co-creation (VCC) initiative together with ETPL. While startups are usually created before entrepreneurs seek investors or a CTO, the VCC framework matches promising pre-seed technologies with entrepreneurs and investors even before the new startups are created.
